Care guide

Diamond jewellery is made to be worn. A few simple habits keep it bright and secure for decades.

Everyday wear

  • Put jewellery on last, after perfume, lotion, hairspray and makeup.
  • Take it off for sport, gardening, heavy lifting, swimming and cleaning.
  • Avoid chlorine, bleach and harsh cleaning products, which can damage metal and stones.
  • Remove rings before washing your hands, as soap film dulls diamonds.

Cleaning at home

  1. Soak the piece for 15 to 20 minutes in warm water with a few drops of mild dish soap.
  2. Brush gently with a soft toothbrush, paying attention to the underside of the stones.
  3. Rinse in clean warm water, with the sink plug in.
  4. Dry with a soft, lint-free cloth.

Clean pieces you wear every day every few weeks. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners unless a jeweller confirms they are safe for your piece.

By metal

  • Yellow, white and rose gold: clean as above. White gold may be rhodium plated, which can wear over time and can be reapplied by a jeweller.
  • Platinum: develops a soft patina rather than losing metal. It can be polished back to a high shine.
  • Sterling silver: tarnishes naturally. Use a silver polishing cloth and store it airtight.
  • Gold vermeil: a gold layer over silver. Avoid abrasives and long soaks.

Storage

  • Keep each piece in its own soft pouch or a lined box compartment.
  • Diamonds scratch other stones and metals, so never pile pieces together.
  • Fasten chains and bracelets to prevent tangles.

Professional checks
